In Aizej, lietiņ (Go Away, Rain), Ešenvalds masterfully combines textures ranging from traditional herdsman’s calls and kokles, the Latvian stringed folk instrument, to expansive choral harmonies and accordion accompaniment. These varying colors swirl together as the choir pleads with the rain to stay away from Midsummer celebrations and instead allow the sun to shine.
