Ainava ar ganiem (Landscape with Herdsmen) combines a number of folk texts to capture the depth of emotions experienced by a simple herdsman: from the joy of passionate singing to the childlike hope to ‘grow as big as an oak tree’ to the tenacity needed to survive a bitter Latvian winter.
