International Baltic Sea Choir Competition 2018

From 21–23 September, Ēriks will be presiding the jury of the 3rd International Baltic Sea Choir Competition, which will be held in the seaside town of Jurmala just outside the Latvian capital Riga. He will be joined by Bernie Sherlock, Pärt Uusberg, Vaclovas Augustinas, and Milan Kolena.

This year’s participating choirs are Aidija (Lithuania), Aino (Finland), Cantate Domino (Lithuania), Eller Girls Choir (Estonia), Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir (Iceland), Liepaja Culture centre Laiks (Latvia), Parahyangan Catholic University Choir (Indonesia), Polifonica (Belarus, Riga Cathedral Choir School (Latvia), and Tatar National Choir of the Kazan Federal University (Tatarstan, Russia).

All choirs will perform at the opening concert on Friday evening and in two competition categories on Saturday. The five best performers will compete in the finals on Sunday. The winner of the Grand Prix will take home € 3,500, the 2nd and 3rd place € 2,000 and € 1,500 respectively. Special prizes are awarded for the best conductor and best performer of the compulsory work. The winner of last year’s competition was New Dublin Voices (Ireland), followed by the Koper Music School Girls Choir (Slovenia) and the Härlanda Chamber Choir (Sweden).
