Choral Canada’s Podium and The Singing Network’s ISSS conferences in St John’s

This year, North America’s easternmost city St John’s, NL will host both The Singing Network’s International Symposium on Singing and Song and Choral Canada’s Podium, Canada’s national choral conference and festival. From 27 June to 3 July Newfoundland’s Memorial University will welcome Canadian and international academics, performers, and educators for keynote presentations and lectures, as well as performances, masterclasses, and workshops.

Following his tour in February, Ēriks will be back in Canada to participate in both conferences, including as a keynote speaker at Podium. On 30 June, his multimedia symphony Nordic Light will be performed by the YYC Singers, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Timothy Shantz. It was premiered in 2015 and has been performed in the US, Canada, Germany, Lithuania, and Latvia. The accompanying documentary film Nordic Light: A Composer’s Diary, which follows Ēriks on his travels to the Arctic region and documents his research and creative process, will be screened on the same day.
